Privacy policy
Short version: there is no server, no account, and nothing about you is stored anywhere we can see.
This policy explains what happens to information when you use reelconditions.com. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
We do not operate a server that stores your data
ReelConditions is a static website. When you look up a location, your browser contacts the weather and tide providers directly. Those requests do not pass through any server we control, and we never receive, log or store the locations you search, the species you select, or anything else you do on the site.
What is stored on your own device
The site uses your browser's local storage — data that stays on your device and is never transmitted to us — for three things:
- Saved spots. The names and coordinates of locations you explicitly save with the Save button.
- Your species preference, so the dropdown remembers your choice.
- A cached copy of NOAA's tide station index, refreshed monthly, so the site does not have to re-download a large public dataset on every visit.
Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it. Nothing there identifies you.
Location
The site never requests your device location automatically. If you press "Use my current location", your browser asks your permission, and if you grant it the coordinates are used to fetch a forecast and are then discarded. They are not stored and not transmitted to us.
Third parties that receive data
Because your browser talks to these services directly, they receive your IP address and the coordinates you are looking up, and their own privacy policies apply:
- Open-Meteo — weather, marine and geocoding data.
- NOAA CO-OPS (tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov) — tide predictions and station index. A US government service.
- Zippopotam.us — US zip code to coordinate lookup.
- Google AdSense — advertising, described below.
Advertising and cookies
This site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
- For more on how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see Google's partner-sites policy.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent notice will ask for your permission before personalised advertising cookies are set, and you can change or withdraw that consent at any time through that notice.
Analytics
We do not currently run a separate analytics product. If that changes, this policy will be updated before it is deployed.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from them.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete. Requests relating to advertising data should go to Google directly through the links above. Everything the site itself stores is on your device and under your control.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of the page will change with it.
